These discussions cover various condensed matter topics, from avalanches and actin to nanoparticle electronics. The focus is on unfinished research with puzzles that need hashing out. New ideas often come out, and people like the glimpse of the emerging research. The organization is as informal as possible, with topics often decided only a day or two in advance.

The normal format is to gather in GCIS E123 at 12:00 with lunch. Then at 12:15 the designated discussant introduces the topic of the day. Immediately questions arise and an unprogrammed discussion emerges.
