It is important to develop awareness of our own assumptions, values and biases about human behavior. Our awareness and world view is developed by how we were raised and the people we interact with such as our grandparents, parents, friends and our education system.
When we understand our world view and the world view of others, we are better able to communicate with each other and operate in a cross cultural environment.
The Urban Health Initiative Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity offers a variety of trainings to help build cultural competence skills and provide equitable care to our patients.
